Why You Have Fewer Friends As You Grow Older

Finding genuine friends in adulthood can be a daunting task. It takes effort to maintain high quality friendships. During our teen years, all we ever wanted was to be the coolest and the most popular kid. Most of the time we would hang out in big groups; but as time passes, we start to realize that our circle of friends becomes smaller. You also begin to notice that groups of friends begin to split up and you are left with two or three friends who you can call for anything.

This is why you end up having fewer friends as you grow older:

1. You have probably matured faster than your friends

Even though people do crazy things together in their younger years they soon begin to realize that they cannot do those crazy things anymore. It could be that one party has matured faster than the other. Once that element is gone you and your friends have nothing more to talk about. For example, if you and your friends enjoyed partying till the break of dawn and one party settles down, then is likely that the friendship won’t be what it used to be.

2. Some friends begin harboring feelings of jealousy towards each other

It’s a fact in life that people will never move at the same pace. Success won’t come to everyone at the same time; only in rare cases. Therefore, friends should never be jealous of each other. Sometimes one tells friends about their success in a new job post and some friends end up feeling distraught and annoyed. Jealous relationships are not healthy for anyone. Friendships like these lead to resentment.

3. Some friends enter into serious relationships

There is no definite time when you will find love; it just happens. One thing that weakens many friendships is when one party begins spending more time with their loved ones than with their friends. Guys especially have a problem with this. Some guys feel left out when one of them finds a new girl.

4. Some of the friends get involving jobs

After a long day at work, all one ever wants to do is to shower, eat, and sleep. Time for friends decreases when one party gets a new involving job. Anything that has to do with going out becomes a no go zone.

5. One party gets a transfer

If one friend moves to a different location for a new job post, then it becomes increasingly difficult to hang out. People try to keep up the communication but with time it becomes hard to keep in touch which makes it hard to keep the friendship going.
