 Simple Chocolate Cake – For Beginners

This cake recipe is easy to follow and will have you believe that you can be a five star chef in no time. Interestingly, this cake can go up to 2 days without becoming unpalatable. However, on the 3rd day, it will dry out but not go stale. If you have a date with your girlfriend and she loves chocolate, you can make this simple chocolate cake recipe.


2 eggs

1 ¾ cups of self-rising flour

¾ cup of drinking chocolate

1 cup of milk

1 cup of water

1 tablespoon of salt

½ cup of cooking oil

175g of butter

2 cups of sugar


Heat the oven at 175 degrees Celsius

Begin by aerating the flour. You can use a sieve or your hands. While using a sieve, repeatedly sieve the flour to allow air to get in. While using your hands, pick some flour in both of your hands and lift it to about 30 cms and then let the flour slip through your fingers back into the bowl. Repeat this process to allow air to get in.

In a large bowl, pour 1 ¾ cups of self-rising flour and add the butter. Using a knife, cut the butter whilst still in the flour, and do this repeatedly as if you are mixing the butter with the flour. Beat two eggs and pour them in the flour. Add 1 cup of milk, 2 cups of sugar, and start stirring till you achieve a smooth mixture.

In a small bowl of water, ¾ cup of add drinking chocolate and stir to make a paste. Then add the paste to the flour mixture and stir thoroughly.

Grease your baking bowl/sufuria/tin all round with cooking oil as this prevents the mixture from sticking on the pan.

Add the mixture in the tins; leave the cake mixture bake for 25 minutes. To be sure that the cake is almost ready, you can dip a fork in the cake mixture to assess whether it is moist. If it is ready, the fork with go in smoothly and come out dry.
